A Russian pilot couple are here on Saipan to make their second wedding
unique-an underwater wedding at Grotto Dive Spot in Marpi today.
Igor
Popov and his wife Natalia will have their marriage vow in the world-famous dive
spot before a person who will assume the role of Neptune at 12 noon.
Oleg
Tchernychenko, sales and marketing consultant for Belka Tours & Speedy
Tertle, told Saipan Tribune yesterday that they arranged the wedding upon the
Popov couple's request.
Tchernychenko said the big rock in the Grotto,
which will serve as an altar, will be adorned with flowers.
Underwater,
two persons will act as witnesses in the ceremony to be presided by Neptune.
There will be two cameramen, while two others will be in charge of the video and
still. Another person will serve as support crew.
“Because Neptune is
god, he doesn't need a priest,” the marketing consultant said.
He said
the wedding, which will take about 15 to 30 minutes underwater, will be done
through gestures.
The Popovs arrived on the island on Nov. 10. They are
leaving on Nov. 22. Aside from being pilots, both are also certified ski and
scuba divers.
